Ruby Ashby entered into rest on December 19, 2023, after an extended illness. Viewing and Celebration of Life Program will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024, beginning 4:00pm at Howell Funeral Home, 10220 Guilford Rd., Jessup, Maryland 20794 (301-604-0101). Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 8, at 11:00am at Mt Calvary Baptist Church, 1260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, Georgia, with Rev. Dr. Clyde Hill officiating. Visitation will take

place at the church one hour before the funeral service. Interment will be at Westover Memorial Park, Wheeler Road.

 

Born in Augusta, Ruby Ashby spent most of her life there.  She was very active at Mt Calvary Baptist Church where she was a deaconess and participated in many clubs and activities. She was also involved in community organizations and was once named Volunteer of the Year for the Mental Health Association of Augusta.  Until her health declined, She was an active member of the Haines Alumni Association.  In her later years, she moved to Ellicott City, Maryland to live with her daughter.  

 

Ruby was pre-deceased by her beloved son, Leon Addison (Terry), who passed away in March 2023, and her sister, Juanita Shanks. They are now all together again.

 

She leaves many to mourn her, including her daughter LaVarne Burton of Ellicott City, Maryland; Grandsons: Kevin Taylor (Nancy), Columbia, Maryland; Michael Addison, Sacramento, California; Ryon Addison (Kathrina), Woodinville, Washington; Nicolas Addison (Chanel) and Cullen Addison, Puyallup, Washington; Great-Grandchildren: Michael Addison, Jr, Houston, Texas; Zoe Taylor, Columbia, Maryland; Beckham and Taylor Addison, Woodinville, Washington; nieces and nephews: Ronald Walton (Barbara) and Lillian Philpot (Verdere), Augusta; Sheila Brewington (Steve), Tampa, Florida; Bruce Shanks (Andrea), Clarksville, Tennessee; John Shanks, Jr., Augusta and Carolyn Jones (Robert), Augusta;  Maurice Shanks (Wanda), Phoenix City, Alabama; Deborah Allen (Michael), Augusta; goddaughters Raye Mays, Augusta, and Allison Samuels; devoted neighbors Joan and Johnny Davis, Augusta; and a host of other relatives and friends.
