Obituary

Johnny Eugene Brinson was born to the late Mattie Kindred Brinson and Frank Brinson on August 20, 1953, in Columbus, Georgia. Johnny’s formative years were spent in Columbus, Georgia, and Poughkeepsie, New York. He attended Radcliff Elementary and Southern Junior High School, and graduated from Spencer High in 1971. He entered Morris Brown College in the fall of 1971, and received his Bachelor of Science in elementary education in May 1975. Johnny began his teaching career in 1975 in Columbus, Georgia. In 1985, he received his Master's in Education from Troy State University, and his Doctoral Degree from Sarasota University. Dr. Brinson's professional career spans over 34 years in public education and, most recently, higher education at Coppin State University as an Adjunct Professor. Having many hobbies and multiple circles of friends and family he loved to support, Johnny was an avid world traveler and lover of the arts. Dr. Brinson's Professional Affiliations included The National Alliance Of Black School Educators, the Washington Teachers' Union, and he was a proud lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Dr. Brinson became a member of the First Baptist Church of Highland Park on his birthday, August 20, 2023. On August 19, 2024, after living a successful fulfilled life, Johnny met his eternal Heavenly Father. Dr. Brinson leaves to cherish his memories: a loving stepmother, Joni Brinson; his special cousins who he loved as siblings, Richard Harris and Barbara Kindred; his local Maryland cousins, Katie Brinson Hinton, Esq. and Tonia Brinson; lifetime friends, Dr. Nathaniel Gibson and Dr. Jermaine Ellerbe; fraternity brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha, educational colleagues, and a host of family and friends.
