Obituary

Carolyn White Harp, 92 years old, peacefully departed this life after a brief illness on Thursday, November 7, 2024. She was born on January 20, 1932, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Raised in East Baltimore by her mother, Cora White, Carolyn

and her sister Joyce enjoyed a childhood rich in love and community. After demonstrating academic excellence at Dunbar High School, Carolyn received a full scholarship to Morgan College, where she studied social work. Following her graduation, she embarked on a career as a social worker in Baltimore City.

Shortly thereafter, Carolyn married Lieutenant Solomon Harp III of the United States Air Force. They were married for 54 years and blessed with having four daughters. While her primary dedication was to family, Carolyn also pursued a variety of hobbies and interests. She was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated and a founding member of both the Columbia Alumnae Chapter and the Morgan State University Howard County Chapter. Her love for travel took her to six of the seven continents, with Kenya being among her favorite destinations. When not traveling, Carolyn enjoyed participating in her book club, Cluster group, and hosting social gatherings. Her interests were wide-ranging, including membership in the Howard County African American Genealogy and the Jewish Genealogy of Baltimore, as well as engaging in activities such as tennis, Tai Chi, exercise classes, sewing, cooking, and Bible study.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Solomon Harp III; mother, Cora White; sister, Joyce White; daughter, Cherie Roberts; and son-in-law, Steven Henry (Joy). She is survived by her son-in-law, William Roberts; daughter C. Wendy (Kenneth Bethea II); daughter Joy; daughter Lisa (Drew Thomas); along with her grandchildren Corey Williams (Marsha), Hilary Roberts, William Thomas, and great-grandson Charles Williams.
