Obituary

Archie Kyle Blakely of Hanover, Maryland departed this earthly life on December 1, 2021, at Morningside House of Assisted Living. He was born in Warren, Ohio, November 14, 1943, third child of five, to the late Daniel and Cecil Blakely.

A National Honor Society Recipient, Archie graduated from Warren G. Harding High School (Warren, Ohio), in the Class of 1961. He attended and graduated from Hampton University in 1966 with a B.S. in Chemistry.

Archie worked his entire career an outstanding pioneer Chemist with Mobile Oil and Valspar. Professionally, he traveled to every state in the continental US, most of Europe, Dubai, and the Bahamas.

He was a member of Grace AME Church in Warren Ohio, The National Honor Society, Hampton’s Gamma Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated (Life Member), Delta Lambda Chapter in Baltimore (corresponding secretary), Strathmore’s Who’s Who for Industry, NAACP, The Corvette Club, The Playboy Club, Hampton’s 50th Alumni Class, Howard County Alzheimer’s Support Group and Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Hanover.

He leaves to grieve his devoted wife, Dorothy Scott Blakely, Hanover, Maryland; sister Darlene Blakely Brown, Fishers, Indiana, brother Andrew Blakely, Warren Ohio; stepson Darryll Scott Wright, Grandchildren Aniyah Sophia Wright, Selena Marie, Darius Curtis Wright, and Christian Elijah Wright; Nephews, Kevin (Keneshia) and Kristoffer (Kate) Brown; Godson, Donovan (Lisa) Kirkland; Special Cousins Ida and Mattie Morse; The Alpha Pack, Robert Kirkland (Agnes), Paul Ford, deceased and wife Carol, James Smith, deceased and wife Deidra and hosts of relatives, Alpha Brothers, classmates, friends, and neighbors. Those we love are forever in our hearts.


We thank the Caring Ministry of Saint Mark UMC for all their un-ending support, love, visits, and prayers. Also, Hospice of the Chesapeake for their amazing work.


We would like to express our gratitude to the Staff of Morningside House of Assisted Living in Hanover, for their dedicated care of “Our Beloved Archie.”
