Obituary

Anthony Joseph Allen, a beloved husband, son, brother, father, and friend, passed away on September 10, 2024, at the age of 57. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, to Melvin Delores Allen and Joseph Lawrence, Anthony was a beacon of joy and light throughout his life, known for his radiant smile, generous heart, and extraordinary singing talent. He is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Royce Edward Allen, and his first wife Tania A. Johnson Allen.

Anthony grew up in Port Arthur, a town known for its strong sports culture, where he excelled in basketball at Lincoln High School. Under the leadership of Coach James Gamble, Lincoln won two state championships during his four years. His impressive high school career earned him accolades, including Texas Mr. Basketball and a top 20 national ranking. Anthony chose to continue his basketball career at Georgetown University, where he contributed significantly to the team’s success and became a defender to reckon with.

After college, Anthony played professionally overseas, spending time in France, Mexico, and Australia. His basketball career provided him with the opportunity to travel and experience new cultures. Influenced by his experiences, he shifted his focus to ministry, enrolling in seminary and becoming involved with the Athletes in Action. His passion for ministry inspired him to complete graduate studies to become a minister while working with youth at Mount Horeb Baptist Church under Pastor D.U. Cooper. He also served as a father figure and mentor to many.

Anthony had a profound impact on his community through his work with the Department of Public Safety at Georgetown University. Known for his dedication and laid-back demeanor, he was a beloved figure on campus.

In addition to his professional and ministry work, Anthony was a passionate musician. He loved singing and playing instruments, and he became known for his musical talents in the church, often writing and performing songs. He served as choir director at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. His culinary skills were also noteworthy; he was famous for his barbecues and ability to create delicious meals that brought people together.

Anthony’s life was characterized by his deep love for family and faith. He is survived by his wife Laura Emmanuel-Allen and his four children Anthony Joseph Allen Jr., Aniyah Gabrielle Allen, Ava Elyse Allen, and Aiden Michael Allen, who were the center of his world. His brother Roynald Nelson Allen (Stephanie) of Baytown, Texas and sister Tonya Renee Allen of Hutto, Texas and a host of other family members, and friends. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will be remembered by all who knew him.

Anthony Joseph Allen will be deeply missed but cherished in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were touched by his life.
